Hi All,

A few weeks ago I was bored bcoz there was no one online to play with, so I started wondering across different servers. I ended up on a DeFRaG server and met very friendly players who guided me through all the DeFRaG maps which the hosted on their server. After 2 maps sweating and swearing I stared to get my sarge in controle to move him across amazing big maps full of barricades I had to pass using jump, triple jumps and fire arms to make extreemly high and far jumps. It's very addicted and that without killing a single soul :p I'm so enthousiastic about it that I would like to introduce DeFRaG to our clan.

So now I'm concidering to set up a Quake III Arena DeFRaG server.

DeFRaG (also capitalised as defrag, abbreviated as df) is a free software modification for id Software's first-person shooter computer game Quake III Arena (Q3A). The mod is dedicated to player movements and trickjumping.[nb 1] It aims at providing a platform for self-training,[1] competition, online tricking, machinima making, and trickjumping.[2] Hence it constitutes an exception among other Q3A mods.[3]

The mod includes a variety of features—timers and meters, ghost mode, cheat prevention and learning tools. Specially designed maps are provided that will rely on the player's movement abilities to be completed up to the finish line, while standard Q3A maps and Capture the Flag (CTF) fast captures are supported as well. Furthermore gamespace physics from both the original Q3A and the Challenge ProMode Arena (CPMA) mod are supported.

I've added a YouTube movie to this Topic so you can have a glimb on what DeFRaG is all about.

I've seen the youtube videos
To be honest it's not my type of game.
It's more Q3 of the year 2050 to me.

I more like the q3 of 1999, the moment i started the game
I think i'm getting old

You guys must not remember "trick jumping". There used to be all kinds of servers out there for trick jumping. Same look... it was all a competition against yourself or maybe one or two others.

There was a way to advance levels to where the little platforms were SO FAR APART that only the most skilled players could even attempt it. Plus there was another section called "Race"... in which the course just a long straight field with walls on either side... and the whole idea was who could get there first.

Trick Jumping was a big thing back in the day... but I never got it. I tried it a couple times... and some of the maps are WAY cool,,, but I never really got the hang of it.

Defrag contains different challenges each hard to master.

- Trick jumping
- Strafe jumping
- Circle jumping
- Run
- Race
- Freestyle

But with a lot of patient and concentration you will succeed to master these skills. While doing this you will experience a lot of fun, frustration and a great victory feeling when you master one of these skills. To help you I have added a strafe jumping instruction video which was great help for me.
