MPD’s server was originally set up as LAN only at Sierra Games headquarters, in Los Angeles, California. Players worked for Sierra (Vivendi Games) in the Media Production Department - hence the acronym MPD. When Zoot transferred to Radical in Vancouver, Canada, (a division of Sierra) he set it up as an internet server to keep playing with his buddies down south. He added ‘Norte’ to both the server name and his player name to reflect move north - though he is not Latino, he likes to say Norte instead of 'north' - go figure. The server setup, games, type, maps, settings, rules and attitude soon caught on with other FEAR players and before long the server had an international following of good regulars.
